GENERAL CLEANING

Pigmentations are most often found on rough tooth surfaces and are characterized by their dark brown to black color and the hardness of the underlying tooth tissue (not including tooth decay).

The cause of these changes are chromogenic bacteria that produce pigment through their metabolism. Chromogenic bacteria in the oral cavity are not pathological in themselves, but they create unpleasant pigmentation on the teeth.
It is actually an anaerobic bacterium Bacteroides melanogenicus which forms part of the natural flora of the oral cavity. However, with an increase in the number of bacteria in the oral cavity, poor oral hygiene, roughness of the tooth surface, smoking and other factors, pigmentation occurs on the teeth.

Pigmentation stains should be professionally removed using SANDBLASTING, a procedure where small particles under pressure are directed to pigmented areas and all stains are removed by air abrasion.

After sandblasting, it is always necessary to polish the treated surfaces in order to prevent the re-emergence of pigmentation, i.e. to remove all roughness.
