CROWNS

Dental crowns or covers are, along with bridges, the most well-known solutions to aesthetic and functional defects in the oral cavity.

You ask yourself, "What's the difference between the two?"

Crowns are actually caps made of artificial material, most often metal-ceramics or zircon-ceramics, which completely cover the tooth and in this way replace the lost hard tooth tissue and uniformly transmit chewing forces to the tooth.

Bridges are solutions for the care of toothless areas between two or more teeth (supports). They are a great alternative to implants if we do not have enough bone width to install them or if the adjacent teeth are full of fillings.

The material of choice depends on your aesthetic requirements and the area where the prosthetic replacement will be placed.

Metal - ceramic crown the basis is a metal alloy on which layers of ceramics are placed - they imitate a natural tooth.

Full zirconia - the crown/bridge is entirely made of zirconium dioxide (monolithic), which has excellent strength and resistance, but also aesthetics because its color imitates a natural tooth.

Zircon ceramics - the base is made of extremely hard zirconium dioxide, a ceramic material, in the color of the teeth. A ceramic layer is placed on top of it to achieve excellent aesthetics.

Crowns and bridges takes several days and consists of different stages:

  1. consultation and a therapy plan
  2. grinding teeth for a crown or bridge
  3. taking an impression for a dental technician
  4. trial of metal/zirconium base (if we are doing full zirconia, we skip this stage)
  5. trying on the final work
  6. cementation
  7. corrections and polishing

Once cemented, prosthetic replacement lasts for many years. Its durability also depends on your oral hygiene.
